Gaza’s Students Have Lost Everything. Here’s How Education Scholarships Are Rebuilding Hope.

Before October 2023, Gaza had a thriving student population. Over 625,000 children attended school. Tens of thousands were enrolled in universities, pursuing degrees in medicine, engineering, education, and law. That world no longer exists.

As of early 2026, more than 90% of Gaza’s schools have been destroyed or sustained damage, and 60% of school-aged children currently have no access to in-person learning. Before this war, Palestinians in Gaza had some of the highest literacy rates in the world. Education was a source of pride, resilience, and progress for generations. That foundation has been systematically dismantled.

Why Education Aid for Palestine Cannot Wait

When schools are destroyed, the harm extends far beyond academics. Children lose structure, safety, and a sense of future. For Gaza university students, the loss is especially acute. Many were semesters away from graduating. Displacement and destruction froze their futures mid-sentence.

By May 2024, over 555 students who had secured international scholarships lost them entirely, with most remaining trapped in Gaza as enrollment deadlines passed. Without targeted support like scholarships for Palestinian students, an entire generation of doctors, teachers, and engineers may never complete their education.

What Scholarships for Refugee Students Actually Do

Palestine humanitarian aid rightly focuses on food, water, and medical care. But education is a lifeline too. Scholarships for refugee students provide more than tuition. They restore dignity, purpose, and a reason to keep going. For a Gaza scholarship recipient, that support can mean the difference between continuing studies through an online program or giving up entirely.

How You Can Help

The need for scholarships for Gaza students is urgent and ongoing. Every dollar directed toward a student’s education is an investment in what Gaza will look like when rebuilding begins. Organizations providing education aid for Palestine are working against enormous odds, but the impact is real and lasting.

Human Concern International USA (HCI USA) offers a Gaza scholarship program that connects donors in the U.S. with Palestinian students who need support to continue their education. It is one of the most direct forms of Palestine humanitarian aid available, not rebuilding buildings, but rebuilding futures.
