You want to help a Rohingya family. Should you give Zakat or Sadaqah? And what might your donation support?
Those are good questions. Before giving, it helps to see what families need and how each type of donation works.
What Can a Food Pack Do?
Rohingya food packs help families prepare meals when money is scarce. Human Concern USA’s Rohingya appeal describes packs with rice, lentils, and oil. They offer practical help with an immediate need.
But a family may face other problems that same day. Is their drinking water safe? Can a parent get treatment for a sick child? Rohingya emergency food aid matters, but food alone cannot answer every need.
How Can You Give Zakat for Rohingya Families?
Zakat is an obligation for Muslims who meet its conditions. It must go to eligible recipients. Sadaqah is voluntary and can support a wider range of needs.
Human Concern USA says it keeps Zakat funds separate. It also says its Zakat projects are reviewed for eligibility. If you want to give Zakat for Rohingya families, check the options on the donation form. Make sure your chosen fund matches your intention.
Can Zakat help with medical care? Human Concern USA says it can cover essential treatment for someone who cannot afford it and qualifies as poor or needy. Eligibility still matters. The type of expense alone does not decide where Zakat can go.
What Else Might a Family Need?
The Rohingya appeal includes clean water, medical aid, and care for vulnerable children. These needs are linked. Food helps a child eat. Safe water helps a family prepare that food. Medical care helps when someone becomes ill.
UNICEF has reported serious malnutrition among children in the camps. That helps explain why ongoing food and health support matter. A family’s needs do not end when one pack runs out.
What Should You Check Before Donating?
First, choose Zakat or Sadaqah. Then look for the Rohingya designation. If you are unsure how a restricted donation will be used, ask before you give.
Human Concern USA explains its relief priorities on the Rohingya appeal page. Its Zakat page explains how it handles Zakat funds. Reading both can help you give with confidence.
